Equipment Storage Building

Bill MacKitchen, an owner of a business that specializes in kitchen installation, had never put up a steel building before.  He was amazed with the 30 X 40 X 10 structure that he purchased from Allied Steel, and with how easy it was to put up just by following the instructions.

“It took about a week to figure out everything with the blueprints, but I can do anything,” said MacKitchen.  “It was the first time I had erected one of these things myself.  It took only two guys and 20 working days.”

MacKitchen explained he was going to use the building to house tractors and other equipment, as well as many of his automobiles.

“I’m squeezing 8 antique cars in there; I have old Cameros and Trans Ams that I’ve restored and maintained.  I have 50 acres of property in Upstate New York, so I have a lot of space to move around with.”

MacKitchen was also able to have Allied help him make changes to the building by adding 2 larger 8 X 8 framed openings alongside the 3 X 7 door that was originally in the design.

He also installed himself ice gadgets that keep the snow from falling off the roof when it melts.  Living in Hopewell Junction, about 20 minutes southeast of Poughkeepsie, it was an important factor - given how the weather can be.

“It gets cold up here.  We can get 10” of snow in one day, and if it rains, ice is everywhere.  The ice gadgets are these little steel things that stick to the roof.  When the snow and ice melt, the gadgets hold them so nothing slides off the roof and kills somebody.”

He was impressed with how every piece fit into its place when he erected the structure in the spring of 2005.  It was designed to hold a snow load of 35 pounds per square foot.

“The quality of the building was great.  Everything went the way it was supposed to in terms of how it’s laid out to be erected.  I was amazed with how well it all lined up, everything clicked right in, and all the bolts in the ground fit perfectly.  I would definitely do it again with Allied Steel.”
